I’m still working on the Irish Hiking Scarf and will be for a while so I doubt I’ll have any else happening until it is done. I am one of those people who don’t keep a bunch of works in progress. I generally try to stick to one or two projects at a time. I currently have the scarf, three popsicle toys and a pair of pjs in progress.
This is my progress on the scarf as of this morning. It is coming along, albeit slowly. I generally only work on projects while Paige is sleeping because she is far too active during the day to get anything done. The scarf is turning out beautifully. I’m absolutely in love with it. I usually give away most things or make them for my daughter but I think I might just keep this one for myself. I haven’t decided yet.
I also have three popsicle toys crocheted. All I need to do is stuff, sew shut and put on the face. I really don’t know why I haven’t finished this yet. It’s not like me to get it nearly done and then stop. I’ve been having trouble focusing lately which leads to my last WIP. I have a pair of fleece pj bottoms cut out but haven’t sewn them. I decided that I want to embellish them before I sew them up but I can’t decide how I want to embellish them so they are sitting on my sewing desk waiting. I can’t decide between a flower, a butterfly or a heart. I do know that I’d like to use some sequins and that requires a trip to Michaels so it will be a while before that project gets finished. Naturally, by the time I finish it the weather will likely be too warm for her to wear them. LOL. That sounds about par for the course.
Having three WIPs is a lot for me. Hrm… well actually I have another WIP but I’ve shelved it for now. The quilt using Papa’s clothes. I have the shirts all cut up and ready but I’m struggling with continuing on it. It is a very emotional project and too hard to work on right now. I’ve put it on hold and I’ll see how I feel about it this summer or fall. Every time I see the bags of fabric I get all misty-eyed and know it is too soon.

As I mentioned yesterday, I found a tutorial on Homemade by Jill for some adorable Halloween treat bags. I knew immediately that I needed to make one for Paige. It was just too cute to resist.
My printer has been out of ink for probably a year. I know! Bad me! So I wasn’t able to print out the templates that were provided. I had to work it out for myself. It took a few tries but I finally got it the way that I wanted it and I absolutely love the results. The other difference with my bag is that I used fleece instead of felt. I really wanted it to hold up and felt grabs every little speck of dirt or cat hair that you can and cannot see. Felt also beads/balls up which drives me nuts! Since I have an entire bookshelf full of fleece, I decided to use that instead and I love the results. The finished bag is roughly 10 x 10.5 inches.
I love this bag so much that I am going to try to work out a smaller version to make for Paige’s class. We are supposed to bring in candy on Halloween for the kids to pass out and I wanted to do something special since it is her first year in school. When I saw this bag, I knew I found that something special. I will be switching over to felt for the tiny version because the felt will be easier to work with and doesn’t need to have that extra strength to hold up with a bunch of candy. It will only be holding a couple lollipops and some smaller candy so felt will be fine (and cheaper).
I plan to make the mini template tonight and tomorrow night I will start making them. I have no idea if I can do it because the pieces will be so small I doubt I’ll be able to use my machine to stitch them. I have a little over a week to get 20 of them made. I hope I can do it. I am putting Papa’s Remembrance Quilt on hold temporarily while I work on the treat bags.
I know I have been quiet lately but I’ve been working like crazy cutting up Papa’s shirts to get them ready to cut for the quilts. It has been a lot of tedious work but I’m trying to get as much fabric from them as I can. I’m also saving all the buttons (I’ve filled a double size baby food jar full of them) because I love to recycle whenever possible. I still have some shirts to cut up but I am hoping to have that part finished by tonight. Tomorrow, I can start working on cutting them into squares.
In addition, Paige has started swimming lesson and gymnastics which keeps us busy at the end of the week. We also had a birthday party for my mother-in-law over the weekend, as well (I made a batch of Lemon Burst Cake Cookies). Between all that plus Paige’s illness, it has been pretty hectic lately.
Paige has been doing well in school and she showed something she learned in school tonight in a video she took with her Daddy. Ignore the messy background. Our computer room/play room is a disaster. You will also notice Paige’s chalkboard wall is covered in scribbles and letter practice with more scribbles over top. LOL. She loves that wall and uses it daily which can be great practice when she’s in the mood for learning and working on her letters.
Oh and let me just say that I am NOT ignoring them. Paige doesn’t like me watching when they make videos. It’s their special time and I’m not invited. LOL. At around 27 seconds you hear her complaining because I dared to say something. HAHA.
Yesterday, I worked on a couple things. I finished another block on the quilt.
Block #7
Yes, I know! I didn’t iron it. I’d love to blame it on the fact that I’m very sick (thanks to my daughter and hubby) but really, I was just feeling lazy. Then again, maybe that laziness is a manifestation of my illness…. yeah, I like that. I think I’ll go with that.
As for this illness… my body was fighting it off but it apparently lost the battle because now I’m quite miserable. Bleh!
I also managed to work on a couple more bows for Paige. She begged me to make her some more. She loves looking at all the new bows and helping me pick out which ones will match her outfit. She loves them so much that every day she has to show her Daddy ALL her bows and Daddy has to pretend he is seeing them for the first time, every day.
Paige has a number of pink and brown outfits so I knew that if I made a bow in those colours it would be used often.
Paige’s favourite colour is purple so she also has plenty of purple in her wardrobe. I knew that if I made a purple bow, she would love it.
Even sick, I’m still managing to get some crafting done. Not a lot but some is better than none.

Sadly, it doesn’t look like I’m going to be able to finish the guest quilt that I have been working on before my mother arrives for her visit. I will definitely need additional fabric and we have far too many expenses over the next few months. I won’t be able to buy the additional fabric I need until after the new year. Between all the birthdays in the family over, some dental bills (hubby) and Christmas, it just won’t be possible. I will do as much as I can with the fabric that I have but then it will have to be put on hold for a while.
I do have LOTS and LOTS of projects in the works so my sewing machine won’t be neglected. I will admit that I have been having a hard time motivating myself to finish up the squares that I can do because I know that I won’t be able to finish and that makes me very sad. I don’t generally have WIPs as I like to finish what I start so this will be a new experience for me and one that I am definitely NOT looking forward to.
