Crafting Galore
Now that I’m out of a job, I figured that I might as well use some of my time towards crafting. I’ve been knitting scarves for my in-laws for Christmas to go along with their regular gift. Without having a job, we will likely reduce the amount of money we spend on each person which we were probably going to do anyway now that the family has grown by two people this year, my nephew and my sister-in-law’s fiance.
Tonight, in the middle of a migraine, I managed to create a cardboard template for a rice/bean heating pad. I cut the material from an old dress shirt of my husband’s that I love and I got it all pinned. Tomorrow I hope to finish it up. I really love the pattern and colours of the fabric and it is super soft. We were so thrilled to have found the shirt again. We bought it a couple years ago only to find it had a rip in it. We returned it to the store but it was the last one in stock and out of season so they weren’t getting any more. About 9 months ago when we were buying my husband more work shirts we found they had one in stock in his size, the same shirt! We immediately bought it but sadly, he was only able to wear it three times before his sleeve got caught on something and it ripped. I didn’t have the heart to throw it away so I put it into my scrap bin with the hope that someday I could recycle it. Now I have my chance.
If someone had told me 5 years ago that I would become a craftaholic I would have told them that they had lost their minds. While my family has always been very crafty, I never could pick up the talent or the bug. When I was pregnant, I found it was imperative to learn how to knit. It must have been the hormones but my boss taught me how to knit and a lot more than that, she instilled a desperate need to craft.
My husband loves it, even if he does tease me about it. He enjoys watching me create new things and had said many times that he loves to see the sparkle in my eyes when I am crafting. Every now and then he will even make a request for something.
Anyway, I can’t wait to post a photo of the completed heating pad. I’d post the scarves but I don’t want my family to see them before Christmas.
